Willard "Lefty" F. Diefenthaler, 85, of Elkhart Lake, died at St. Nicholas Hospital, Sheboygan.
Willard was born August 18, 1922 in Kiel, son of the late Edwin & Jennie Falk Diefenthaler.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army serving his country during World War II. While fighting in the Battle of the Bulge his twin brother, Wilbur and himself were captured and held prisoners of War in Stalags 9A &9B. His twin brother died while in captivity.
On October 22, 1949 he married Dorothy Jane Schulz. Dorothy preceded him in death on March 16, 1968. On December 23, 1969 Willard married Jean Bastow at St. Peter's UCC, Kiel.
He enjoyed spending time with his children, grand and great grandchildren, building things, horses and the farm life.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Jean, four children: Marjorie (Bob) Klunck, Sheboygan, John (Nancy) Diefenthaler, Elkhart Lake, James Diefenthaler, Elkhart Lake, Tom Diefenthaler, Elkhart Lake,, five grandchildren, Richard (Amy) Klunck, Jason (Shawn) Klunck, Christopher Klunck and friend, Andrea, Carrie (Adam) Krull, Peter Diefenthaler and seven great grandchildren, Quintin Klunck, Kirstin Klunck, Caleigh Klunck, Abigail Klunck, Kolby Klunck, Mason Klunck, Cooper Krull. He is further survived by one sister, Violet Stephany, Kiel, brothers & sisters-in-law, John (Mary) Bastow, Eldorado, KS, Delores Schulz, rural Kiel, Gertrude Schulz, Grayslake, IL, Jack & Marian Piper, Morristown, TN, Carl Schulz, Sheboygan Falls, Arno John Schulz, Kiel.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor B. Diefenthaler, his twin brother, Wilbur John Diefenthaler, one sister-in-law, Doris Schulz and one brother-in-law, Bob Schulz.
Burial will take place in Schleswig Cemetery, Town of Schleswig (Rockville).
