Born in 1844 in Alabama, George also lived in Kentucky and Florida before moving to Texas. He purchased a farm in the A. L. Carrigan Survey, Erath County, Texas on 16 March 1885 (date on deed). Land was in the McKinney family until 1995.
George married first on 17 May 1868 at the residence of Samuel Warford, near Jordan, Kentucky, Rhoda Warford, daughter of Samuel Warford and Frances Shepherd, "Fulton Co. Deed Book 9, pg. 74, Oct. 1, 1873","We have this day sold to Rhoda Mildred McKinney all our rights & title. Also all the rights title & interest we have in a tract of land situated in the foresaid county & state & now controlled by Sallie B. Attebury, also all of our personal property of every kind and description also all notes and account and bonds. We have all rents now due or that may hereafter become due are transferred to her. The above transfer is made with the express condition that whereas the said R. M. McKinney is to take good care of and provide all necessary comforts of life for S. G. Warford and Frances Warford during their natural life. Now if the said R. M. McKinney shall fully comply with the above requirements, then this transfer is complete and valid; otherwise it is null and void. Oct. 1, 1873. Frances Warford, S. G. Warford. Atts G. W. Griffin, 9 Feb. 1874 Obion Co., Tenn. appeared R. W. McKinney 25 Feb. 1874 and was recorded." (Maggie Sue Bates)(Fitzgerald)( page 128) George and Rhoda had at least four children. They divorced in 1906. George married later to Maggie Ward.
