Adelbert Edwin Lane was born in Oneida county, New York, September 2, 1845, and was the second son of J. N. Lane, now of Clark county, but for many years a esident of Hixton. He came west and settled in Hixton on September 3, 1864. For many years he lived on his farm in the northern part of the town. Later that portion of Hixton which included his farm was set off and made a part of Garden Valley, when he became a resident of that town.
He enlisted in company G, f
Fifth Wisconsin Infantry, for service in the civil war, and was in the engagements at Hatches' Run, at Petersburg, Va., on March 25 and April 2, 1865 and at Sailor's Creek, where he was wounded. He was mustered out of the service June 20, 1865.
He was married February 23, 1871, to Miss Floretta S. Burnett, who with two sons, survives him.
Mr. Lane was a good farmer and a good ciizen to the community in which he lived. He was a lifelong Republican and took an interest in the cause of his party. He was a kind husband and father, loyal to his friends. He had many friends in that portion of the county in which he lived.
