Roy M. Rhoden, 88, of Cambridge, formerly of Geneseo, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Hammond-Henry Hospital Extended Care Unit, Geneseo.
Graveside funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, where military honors will be accorded by the Kewanee Veterans Council. The Rev. Jerry Rafalko will officiate. Friends and family of Roy may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Vandemore Funeral Home, Geneseo. Memorials may be left to American Cancer Society.
Roy was born on Oct. 17, 1919, in Timberlake, S.D., the son of Charles and Tekla Olson Rhoden. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Roy was united in marriage to Ingeborg Seibold on April 25, 1959, in Chicago. She preceded him in death in 1995.
He was a union carpenter/lather for many years and also owned and operated the former Royal Motel and Maple Leaf Mobile Home Park, Geneseo. Roy was a lifetime member of Don Cherry VFW Post 5083, Kewanee American Legion Post 31, 40 & 8 Annawan and a former member of Shearer American Legion Post, Geneseo. He also was a longtime member of Loaners on Wheels. Roy enjoyed listening to music and traveling.
Survivors include three daughters, Renee Joseph, San Diego, Calif., Sandy (Brian) Smith, Cambridge, Karen (Bobbie) Moore, Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Grace Rhoden, Seattle, Wash., Doris Adcock, Seattle. He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
