Eliza Elizabeth West was born near Ashville (sic), North Carolina, October 22, 1857. She lived there until the year of 1870, when she came to Nebraska with her parents. She died at Valentine, Nebraska, June 15, 1931, at the age of 73 years, 7 months and 23 days. In the year 1873 she was married to Thomas Barker. To this union were born three sons and three daughters.

Those left to mourn her death, are three daughters: Mrs. Harry Richards of Peerland, Texas; Mrs. Edward Gass and Mrs. Ernest Gass, both of Valentine, Nebr.; also five brothers: N.E. West of Barada, Nebr.; J.N. West of Broken Bow; A.P. West of Yuma, Colo.; and E.M. West of Lincoln; and Thomas West whose residence is unknown.

She was a member of the Episcopalian Church. She attended the Presbyterian Church while in Nelson, and was a member of the Electia Chapter O.E.S., Lincoln, Nebr.

Mrs. Barker resided, with her family, southeast of Nelson for a number of years and where the husband died. She made her Lincoln (typed as written in newspaper) for some time after leaving here.

The remains were brought to Nelson and the funeral services were conducted at the Presbyterian Church by the pastor, Carol O. Olson, at 2:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. The Eastern Star conducted the ritualistic service at the grave.
