Buel Abner

Buel Abner, 87, of Lake City died Sept 12, at the Lake City Health Care Center. He lived in the Medford Community before entering the Center.An Anderson County native, he was the son of the late Elihu and Martha Jane Willoughby Abner.

Mr. Abner was born May 26, 1905.He worked for more than 40 years as a butcher at several area markets including Cooper's and Miller's in Clinton, and Kesterson's in Lake City.A longtime member and deacon of Clear Branch Baptist Church, Mr. Abner was an active member of the Adult Choir and had served as a Sunday school teacher.His wife, Bertha Hatmaker Abner, died in 1985. The couple had been married 56 years at the time of her death. Six brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.

Survivours include children, Barbara Roysden of Wichita Falls, Texas; Lassie Abner of Lake City; Charles and Wanda Abner of Clinton; and Carl and Jean Abner of Rome, Ga.; nine grandchldren; 20 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Tuesday at the Cox Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Powell, the Rev. George DeLozier and the Rev. Mike Abernathy officiating. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Clear Branch Baptist Church, Rt. 1, Lake City, Tenn. 37769.
