Death of L. M. Davis

His many friends were greatly surprised and grieved to learn of the death of L. M. Davis at his home in this city last Friday morning. He had been ailing for some time but was able to be about town until the week preceding his death.

Luther M. Davis was born in Randolph, New York, February 8th, 1838. In 1845 he removed with his parents to Indiana and in 1855 came to Delaware county. He first located in Delhi township, later removing to Milo township where he lived until he retired from active work about fifteen years ago. He was united in marriage with Miss Julia A. Pillon of Monroe county, New York, October 7th 1859. To them were born four children; Wm. J. of Manchester, Lowell H. of Delhi, Charles F. of Milo township and Miss Anna Davis who resides with her mother in this city.

The funeral service was held from the house Sunday afternoon, Rev. W. H. Suckow, of Grinnell, officiating. Interment was made in the Manchester cemetery.

Mr. Davis was a man of sterling qualities, upright and honest in all of his dealings, and beloved by all who knew him. His large number of friends extend their sincere sympathy to his children and his widow in their sad bereavement.
