Obituary: The Register-Guard, Eugene, Oregon

A memorial service will be held May 25 for Scott Andrew Neblett Rivers of Vancouver, Wash., who died April 26 at age 38. The cause of death has yet to be determined.

Rivers was born June 17, 1963, in Little Rock to Donald Neblett and Emma Lou Wallace.

He earned a bachelor's degree at Guilford College in Greensboro, N.C.

Rivers lived in Eugene from 1990 to 1995 and worked at The Child Center. He married Pamela McCarthy in Eugene on March 19, 1994. He most recently was program manager at The Alliance for Lung Cancer.

His interests included birdwatching, hiking, woodworking, carving, cars, music, basketball and biking. He also enjoyed playing with his children and participating in the Big Brother program.

Survivors include his wife; his father of Asheville, N.C.; his mother, E. Lou Wallace of Elon College, N.C.; his stepgrandmother, Peggy Wallace of Florida; a son, Elijah Rivers, and a daughter, Julia Rivers, both of Vancouver; two brothers, Thomas Neblett of Austin, Texas, and Whit Neblett of Ashville, N.C.; and a sister, Leslie Neblett of Floyd, Va.

Saturday's service will be at 3 p.m. at Michael Servetus Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 4505 E. 18th St., Vancouver. Private burial will be at Park Hill Cemetery in Vancouver.
