Howard was born June 11, 1922, in South Muddy Township, Jasper County, the son of John and Sylvia Galloway Chesnut.
During World War II, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, Company G, 123rd Infantry Regiment, 33rd Division. On Feb. 10, 1961, Howard married Doris Millsap.
He was a farmer, oil field worker and school bus driver. Memberships included Headyville Christian Church. Howard was a devoted husband, father and very proud grandfather.
He will be greatly missed by his wife Doris Chesnut; sons, Brent and Brian Chesnut; daughter, Peggy Radke; five grandchildren Kelly and Tanner Radke and Cullen, Caleb and Crayton Chesnut; brother, Bob Chesnut; sister, Betty Jo Miller and sister-in-law, Rosie Chesnut; and several nieces and nephews.
His parents and two brothers, John Warren and William Morton Chesnut, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held at Headyville Christian Church, rural Jasper County, with Brother Carroll Ross officiating.
Burial will be in Headyville Cemetery with military rites by Jasper Post 20 American Legion.
