Ella "Betty" LaFara, nee Dyer, died peacefully on March 10, 2024. Betty spent her childhood living in various places in northern Indiana and northwest Ohio. She graduated from Peru High School in 1943. Betty volunteered for the Women's Naval Reserve during WWII and later attended Butler University. Betty worked in the publicity department of the Disciples of Christ missions building in Irvington, where she met and married her husband, Bob.
Betty was a longtime resident of Indianapolis and lived the past 17 years at Westminster Village North. Betty was well known for her weaving and quilting artistry. She was a past president of the Indiana Weavers Guild and a sought-after instructor of weaving for many years. Betty was often recognized for her weaving skill at the Indiana State Fair and was awarded the Grand Champion Sweepstakes ribbon four times. Additionally, Betty was active with the Girl Scouts, All Souls Unitarian Church, Oaklandon Universalist Unitarian Church, various women's groups, and as a poll worker.
Betty is survived by three daughters, three grandsons, one great-grandson, three sisters, one brother, and numerous nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Bob, and daughter Janet. Betty will be missed by all who knew her and will forever live in our hearts.
