STUART - Alice Brunsting

Alice Brunsting, 87, died March 26, 2008 at Martin Memorial Medical Center, Stuart.

Born in Trenton, NJ, she lived in Stuart for the past 20 years, moving from Quaker Hill, NY.

She graduated from Central College in Pella, IA, with a bachelor's degree and completed her graduate work at the University of Iowa.

She married Rev. Bernard Robert Brunsting in 1943.

She taught high school physics and chemistry, later was a research chemist at Thyocole Labs, and retired after many years as a social worker for the state of New York.

She was a member of Mariner Sands Chapel, in Stuart; former secretary and treasurer for Jesus House of Hope, in Stuart; active member of Mariner Sands Foundation, Mariner Sands Golf & Country Club, Women's Golf Association; and she started the library at Mariner Sands Chapel.

Survivors include daughters, Bernace DeYoung of Aventura, Dorothy Bishop of Shawnee, KS; brothers, Jack Nixon of PA, Leroy Nixon of NY; sister, Lindy Stradling of DE; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Brunsting, who served as the first pastor of Mariner Sands Chapel; daughter, Carol Brunsting; and son, Daniel Brunsting.

Memorial contributions can be made to Mariner Sands Foundation, c/o Mariner Sands Chapel, 6500 SE Congressional Way, Stuart, FL 34997.

SERVICES: A memorial celebration will be at 2 p.m. April 3 at Mariner Sands Chapel, with Bill Weimer officiating. Inurnment will be in Mariner Sands Gardens.
