Reid LaMar Jones

DECEMBER 9, 1929 – MARCH 7, 2022

Surrounded by his loving family, Reid L. Jones passed away at the age of 92 on March 7th, 2022. He was a truly great man who, when asked how he was doing, always replied enthusiastically, "fan-tastic"!

Reid married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Barbara Dickson, in the Salt Lake Temple on June 19th, 1950. In their remarkable 71 years of marriage they welcomed five children, 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Reid was a wonderful husband, father and "Pops" to his family. His favorite quote was "I have a great life because I have a great wife".

During his early years, Reid was raised in Davis County, Utah and attended Davis High School where he was senior class president, valedictorian, and an outstanding football and basketball player. Many of his classmates remember him fondly for organizing class reunions for over fifty years. Upon graduation, Reid was accepted to West Point Academy. Following his time there, he served for two years in the US Air Force as a First Lieutenant.

After serving in the military, Reid began his career in the insurance and investment business and continued in that work until his final days. His success is well known throughout the industry and he received countless awards and held many offices and leadership positions during his career. He was a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Round Table. Nothing brought Reid more joy in his work than to help families achieve financial stability. He truly loved his clients.

As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Reid served faithfully in many church callings. He and Barbara worked as missionaries at Temple Square and then later as temple workers at the Salt Lake Temple.

With a deep love for nature, Reid was the ultimate outdoorsman and relished his time fishing and hunting. In 1972 he built a cabin in Nordic Valley where, to this day, we all know was his favorite place to be. It was endearingly named "Happy Talk".

Reid was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Catherine Jones, and his son Justin. He leaves behind his children, Catherine Hansen, Jillair McKay (Brian), Dow Jones (Katy) and Jennafer Jones Jeppsen, 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at Wasatch Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3401 Highland Drive in Millcreek, Utah on Friday, March 11th, 2022 at 1:00 pm. A viewing will be held on Thursday evening, March 10th, 2022 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and also on Friday preceding the funeral services at Noon.
