OKOLONA - Julia Bowen Williams died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Vencor Hospital in Atlanta. She was the daughter of the late Dave Bowen and Annie Liza Blanchard Bowen. She was a native of Okolona, and she lived in Decatur, Ga. for the past 13 years. She was a member of the National Council of Negro Women and St. Bernard Episcopal Church. She received her bachelor's degree from Rust College and her master's degree from the Atlanta University. She did further studies at Mississippi University for Women. She was a National Science Foundation Scholar at the Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. She was an advocate of education. She was a math instructor, teaching in the Red Bud area and at Fannie Carter and Okolona High School for more than 20 years.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Springs M.B. Church with the Rev. Emmitt Jarmon and the Rev. George Pulliam officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Williams Memorial Funeral Home of Okolona is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Terry Deans and her husband, Dwight, of Decatur, Ga.; three sons, Earl Williams Jr. and his wife, Nettie, of Hilton Head, N.C., Lancelot Williams and his wife, Gail, of Atlanta, and Milan "Bunny" Williams of Los Angeles; two sisters, Frances B. Brannic of Okolona and New York and Bernice Trice of St. Louis, Mo.; a special niece whom she raised, Gladys Hose of Milwaukee; nine grandchildren, Marlos LoveJoy, Byron Felder and his wife, Nicole, Sonja Arnold, Kebbi Williams, Jason Williams, Julia Deans, Ricci Riera, Moriah Deans and Cramer Deans; one great-grandson, JeJe Vaughn Felder; two nephews, Robert Gunn and Jacob Gunn, both of Nashville.

Pallbearers will be Byron Felder, Kebbi Williams, Marlos LoveJoy, Jason R. Williams, Jacob Gunn and Daniel Trice Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Earl L. Williams Jr., Milan B. Williams, Lancelot O. Williams and Dwight Deans.

Visitation will from 3 until 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with family and friends hour from 7 until 8 p.m. The body will be placed in the church one hour prior to services.
