Josephine "Josie" Tonita Shields, 83, of Pekin, passed away Monday, April 8, 2024 at Carle Health Methodist Hospital in Peoria.

She was born March 14, 1941 in Marshall, Arkansas to Joseph and Beryl (Counterman) Potts.

Surviving are two sons, Joseph "Joe" (Brenda Decker) Shields and Thomas "Jamie" (April) Shields, both of Pekin; one brother Arthur "Buck" Potts of Maryland and one sister, Mary Vogel of Canton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Robert L. Denman, Jr.; two brothers, Don Potts and Thomas Potts and one sister, Judy Kay Donaldson.

Josie worked for 27 years at Peoria Mutual Insurance Company, formerly Illinois Mutual, as a Senior Operations Specialist, retiring in 2006.

She enjoyed baking, gardening and feeding hummingbirds and other local wildlife. Earlier in life she had enjoyed bowling and archery.


Cremation will be accorded following the services.
