Death: Albert Norman ""Bert"" Parker
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend passed peacefully from this life at his home in Salt Lake City on June 23, 1998 to a grand reunion, into the arms of his Father-in-Heaven.
Bert was born January 1, 1910 in Hooper, Utah, the son of George Edwin Parker and Eleanor"Nellie" McIntyre Parker. He and his eternal sweetheart Harriet Emily Smith were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on June 3, 1931.
He is survived by his dear wife, Emily; son, Scott S. (Sydne); daughter, Emily Ann Robinson; nine surviving grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Catherine "Cassie" Mitchell; and brothers, Edwin James, Harrison George, John Lacey, and Dean McIntyre Parker; also son-in-law, Norman Robinson; and grandson, David Robinson.
An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was a member of the High Priests Quorum of the Mountain View First Ward, Hillside Stake. His church service included Counselor in the Mountain View Ward bishopric, Aaronic Priesthood advisor, member of the stake activities committee, and as a dedicated temple worker with his wife Emily in the Salt Lake Temple for over ten years.
He was employed for over forty years by the Salt Lake Hardware Company, where he completed his career as merchandise manager, enjoying the respect of both colleagues and clients. Some of his happiest moments included entertaining his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the piano, singing his famous "Laughing Song." He always enjoyed attending Parker and Smith family reunions where his loving kindness and sense of humor lifted the spirit of all those around him. His family might even say he earned an honorary Ph.D. degree in the art of gentle teasing. Everyone loved being the focus of his attention. Bert enjoyed a broad range of interests including Pioneer Memorial Theatre, Utah Symphony, University of Utah athletic events, and in later years, televised Jazz games. He spent many many hours stitching needlepoint treasures of love which became cherished gifts to his posterity, and as donations to Primary Children's Medical Center Festival of Trees. He is dearly loved and will be greatly missed by family and friends. The family expresses loving appreciation to caregivers, Katherine Einzinger; the staff of Intermountain Health Care Home Health Service, especially Stephanie Garcia and Mary Jarrett; as well as dear and kindly neighbors, Dave and Kelly Johnson and children.
Funeral service will be held Friday, June 26, 1998 at 11 a.m., Mountain View First Ward, 1400 So. 1900 East, Salt Lake City. Friends and family may call Thursday, June 25, from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, and Friday one hour prior to the service at the Ward. Interment will follow at the Hooper Cemetery.
