Obituary for Mrs. Anne Faye Hall-Baker

Anne Faye Hall Baker, daughter of the late Clarence and Katherine Hall, was born on February 23, 1946, in Shreveport, Louisiana. She departed this life Monday, June 6, 2022. Anne was the youngest of five children.

Mrs. Katherine Hall didn't have a formal education, but she though it essential that her children not only receive an education, but receive a college degree. Anne was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Class of 1963 and matriculated from Grambling College, January 1970 with a Bachelor Degree in Education and later she attended National Louis University, receiving her Master of Education Degree +32 credits, in 1992.

Anne left Shreveport and relocated to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1970. She began teaching in the Milwaukee Public Schools system at Carlton Elementary and during that time she met and married Dave Baker and of that union they had two daughters, Davette and Andrea. She continued her career at McDowell School, Fratney Elementary, Gaenlsen School and she ended her 32 year career at Henry David Thoreau School. During her career, she nurtured many children and of those many children, she continued having contact with them and the students always told her that she was one of their favorite teachers. Anne commitment to education did not end with retirement. She went back to Thoreau and assisted with the camp Thoreau and the EYP summer program for several years.

As many retired educators, they must keep busy, so Anne was faithful in her christian life. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, she served several years as the president of the United Methodist Women Council and as the Church School Superintendent. She then became a member of Good Hope Methodist Church and her final destination with her savior was with Ascension Fellowship Church, where she was one of the Mothers of the church and served on the Continuing Education Committee. Anne was not only a faithful member, but she had a strong belief in God.

Anne had several social and professional memberships throughout the years; and enjoyed several activities. They included the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc, (educators), she served as chapter Sargent-at-Arms and the Xinos Club (female) Advisor; The Milwaukee Club of Coordinating Council of the Frontiers International; The Milwaukee Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; The Red Hatters Club, the Birthday Club and the Milwaukee Area Retired Teachers Association. Anne was an avid reader, however as her sight lessened, she continued her love of books by listening to audio books; she loved Perry Mason, Matlock, Golden Girls and all of the Soap Operas.

Anne was preceded in death by her father and mother, her sister Evelyn Graham, her brother Clarence Flynn and her Sister-in-law, Cherry Baker Cain.

She is survived by her dedicated husband of forty-seven years, Dave Baker. Her daughters, Davette Katherine Baker and Andrea Felice Baker (Soror), her "bonus" son, Derrick Baker (Shavina); her brother, Charles Randolph (Janet); nieces, Peggy (Lawrence), Jacquelyn Mims (Michael), Gwendolyn Williams (MacArthur), Pamela, Sandra Kay Roberts (Ricardo); and her only nephew, Palmage Graham, Jr.; and a host of additional relatives and friends. Anne was a special mentor to Ericka Brooks, Tauni Harmon, Cassandra Downing, Anthony Anderson and others. She was loved by her special friends: Sylvia Flenorl, Druzella Pierce, Barbara Faye Williams and Sister/Friend and Sorority Sister, Tuwania R. Anderson.
