Janice Rose Black DeMille

JANUARY 11, 1941 – APRIL 19, 2022

On April 19, 2022, at the age of 81, Janice Rose DeMille was called to return home to her Father in Heaven.

Born on January 11, 1941, Janice often explained that she was named Janice because she was born during the icy month of January. She is the second child of eight and the oldest daughter of Alice Rose Ames and Edward Ferris Black. She was born and raised in the Salt Lake Valley and graduated from Olympus High School.

On June 12, 1959, in the Salt Lake Temple, she married Mayo Maurice DeMille for time and all eternity. Janice and Mayo loved each other with a deep abiding love that was evident in their daily lives. Their love grew even deeper and stronger as they welcomed nine children into their family. Raising a large family was never easy, but Janice found special opportunities to let her husband and children know that she loved them completely and unconditionally. She also helped care for and raise several of her grandchildren. Her grandchildren will always remember her backyard parties and Easter Egg Hunts. Her husband, children and grandchildren were the joy of her life. She always wanted to make them feel loved and appreciated.

Janice was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a true disciple of Jesus Christ. She spent her entire life serving others. She loved serving in the Primary and the Relief Society. She served those in need, especially the downtrodden and lonely. Janice also was willing to step outside of her comfort zone to help others, to ease their burdens, and make them laugh. She enjoyed participating at the Harmon Home in West Valley City. At the Harmon Home, she learned how to dress-up as a clown and make balloon animals. She loved singing with the choir. She was also a member of a book club and loved doing puzzles.

Janice will be fondly remembered by her husband: Mayo DeMille, and her nine children: David (Ruthann) DeMille, Cordell (Jana) DeMille, LaVonna (Howard) Barton, Boyd (Melinda) DeMille, Sanya DeMille, Alden (Rita) DeMille, Arden (Jacque) DeMille, Guy (Julie) DeMille, and Katrina DeMille. She has 50 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren plus 2 on the way. She was gifted with seven siblings who will cherish her memory: Rollo (Ann) Black, Carol (Jack) Buckmiller, Ileen (Alan) Black, Edeen (Rick) Peacock, Rafe (Rinda) Black, Ken (Terry) Black, and Richard Black. She is preceded in death by one grandchild, Alissa Lynn DeMille as well as her parents: Alice and Ed Black.

Services will be held on Friday, April 29, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Valley View Ward House on 4322 South 5400 West, WVC, Utah, with a viewing before the service from 9:00 am to 10:30 am.
