Roger L. Rush, 49, of Waynesburg, died at 11 a.m. Sunday, August 30, 2015, in the emergency room of Washington Hospital. He had been in his usual health and his death was because of an apparent heart attack.

He was born Monday, April 4, 1966, in Mansfield, Ohio, a son of Roger H. and Dawn Vernon Rush of Waynesburg.

Mr. Rush was a member of Eastview First Assembly of God Church in Waynesburg.

He spent his youth in Burgettstown, where he was an outstanding baseball and basketball player. In 1978, he moved with his family to Waynesburg. He was a 1984 graduate of Waynesburg Central High School.

Following his graduation, Mr. Rush went to basic training and served for 12 years in the Air National Guard, serving with the 171st Air Refueling Wing. He served his country in the Gulf War during Desert Storm.

He was a devoted father, who could be seen at dancing school or coaching. He coached youth soccer for nine years and also coached Little League Baseball and football. He attended his children's wrestling matches, cross country meets and soccer games. He will be missed by all.

Mr. Rush was employed for 18 years as a correction officer at SCI-Greene.

His family remembers Lone Pine Volunteer Fire Department and all who helped them with CPR.

Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Shellee Stephenson Rush, who dearly loves him and whom he married July 27, 1996.

Also surviving are his children, who loved their dad so much: a daughter, Mary Kate Rush and fiance Brian of Pittsburgh, and three sons, Cole Robert Rush, Cade Anthony Rush and Coy Benjamin Rush, all at home; two sisters, Joy (Jeff) Pritts of Greensburg and Tammy (Melvin) Headlee of Waynesburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Eastview First Assembly of God Church, 44131 West Roy Furman Highway, Waynesburg, PA 15370, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, September 3, with the Rev. Cristy Wise and the Rev. Frank Nemeth officiating. Burial will be in Fairall Cemetery, Whiteley Township, with graveside military honors accorded by the Honor Guard from SCI-Greene.

Arrangements are entrusted to Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, PA 15370.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to a scholarship fund that has been established for the education of Mr. Rush's boys at Community Bank, 100 Miller Lane, Waynesburg, PA 15370.
