Barney W Lutz, 86, 113 Lincoln Park Blvd, died at 1:50 pm Friday, March 15, 1985, in his home after a short illness. Born May 2, 1898, in Kenwood Park, Linn County, Iowa, son of George W and Mary Francis Gammon Lutz. Lived 59 years in Rockford, coming from Linn County, Iowa. Married the former Inez L Kuntzelman in Freeport, Feb 23, 1929; she died July 18, 1977. Employed as heat treater by Barber-Colman Co 30 years, retiring in 1966. US Navy veteran of World War I. Survivors include a stepson, William J Sully, Rockford; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Rachel Buchanan, Macon, MO; and a niece, Goldie Smith, New Cambria, MO.
Services at 10:30 a.m Tuesday, March 19, in Sundberg Funeral Home Ltd, 215 N 6th St, with the Rev Jack Cave, a poster of First Assembly of God Church, officiating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park. No visitation.

Sep-father of Dorothy Sully and William J Sully; served in US Navy during WWI, aboard USS Hart out of San Diego.

Ben was heavily tatooed while he was in service. In later years, he loved to show off his tatoos and talk at length about his Navy experiences.

Ben's little Scottish terrier and best friend after Inez died, is buried with him.
