Ronald L. Jones, 47, known by the stage name Anthony Armstrong Jones, died Sunday at Schumpert Medical Center in Shreveport, LA. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Thursday at Kelley Memorial Chapel in Eufaula. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Black's Funeral Home of Eufaula. Born June 2, 1949 in Ada, he was the son of Robert and Mary Barnes Jones. He began singing professionally at the age of 14 when he was discovered by Conway Twitty. This was followed by a series of hit recordings such as "Proud Mary" and "Take A Letter Marie". He was voted most Promising Male Artist by the Country Music Association at age 23. Many awards followed from "Record World" and Cash Box". He traveled and was the opening performer for Conway Twitty for over 10 years before forming his own group. He moved to Shreveport, LA, five year ago from Nashville, TN and performed at his own club, Proud Mary's. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, of the home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Jones of Eufaula; his grandmother, Ivy Shaw; a sister and brother in law, Beverly and Joe Johnson of Eufaula; step-sons, Brian Mann, Mark Gold, Brooks Gold and Todd Gold. The family requests memorials to the American Kidney Foundation.
