Clara Ruth Spaugh, wife of William Spaugh, was born in Crawford County, Illinois, on December 30, 1865, and passed from labor to reward at the family residence in Rose Hill, Illinois, on March 1, 1927, aged 61 years, 2 months, and 1 day. She was united in marriage to Mr. Spaugh on July 3, 1886, and to them six children were born, three boys and three girls, one, Eva, having preceded her mother in death.
The deceased was the second daughter born to Cyrus and Mary E. McDaniel, late of Clark County, Illinois. By her passing, her husband has lost a faithful companion, the children a loving mother, and the friends a kind and benevolent neighbor who will be greatly missed by all, as she was ever ready in times of need, sickness, and death to give her kind and unselfish assistance.
She united with the Zoar M.E. Church in Clark County, Illinois, about 34 years ago and to the last lived a true Christian life, bearing her two years of suffering with Christian fortitude, and there is no doubt that she received the welcome plaudit, "Good and faithful servant, enter into the joys of thy Lord."
Those left to mourn are a kind and devoted husband, five affectionate children, Edna McDaniel and Fern Coad of Rose Hill, Harrison of Otisville, Michigan, Herman of Palo Alto, California, and Warren of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; five grandchildren; sister Nettie Baker of Tucson, Arizona; brother Rolla McDaniel of Seattle, Washington; besides a number of relatives and friends, whose loss will be her gain.
Funeral services were held at the Rose Hill M.E. Church, conducted by Rev. O. I. Crandall of Willow Hill.
