Charles enlisted in Army, April 8, 1898, Baltimore MD, Battery A, 6th Regiment, Artillery and was transferred to 60th Company Coast Artillery. Rank Corporal, he served in Spanish-American War and in Philippines during insurrection ( It began after the United States assumed sovereignty of the Philippines following the defeat of Spain in the Spanish-American War) Honorable discharge April 27, 1901, Philippine Islands.

Charles Gladhill 28 single is listed on the 1900 census, Hagerstown, Maryland, and was in the Army, living with his married brother Henry E Gladhill 40 railroad engineer, his wife Rachel L 38 and their 4 children.
