Charles enlisted in Army, April 8, 1898, Baltimore MD, Battery A, 6th Regiment, Artillery and was transferred to 60th Company Coast Artillery. Rank Corporal, he served in Spanish-American War and in Philippines during insurrection ( It began after the United States assumed sovereignty of the Philippines following the defeat of Spain in the Spanish-American War) Honorable discharge April 27, 1901, Philippine Islands.

Sadly his wife Annie died in Sept of 1930 and by the 1950 census, Charles had moved to Baltimore, Maryland, residing with his married daughter Evelyn Elizabeth 40 and husband Arthur M. Johnson 39 photographer in aircraft industry, and their children Charles E 14 and Thomas W. 8.


Charles' daughter Evelyn E. Johnson of Baltimore, Maryland, applied for military stone Oct 7, 1963 to be shipped to Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown MD.

Notice on app for military stone on right margin it has "Suspended 6 Dec 1963"
Apparently no stone was ever delivered to cemetery. What a shame.
