Katherine was born on March 27, 1922 in Maysville, Missouri to Fayette and Virginia (Connett) Utz. She studied to be a medical technician at the Kansas City General Hospital. Katherine served in the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. She then received her B.A. degree from Washington University. On February 23, 1952, Katherine married Dr. Donald L. Croghan in St. Joseph, Missouri. She was a homemaker. Katherine was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada, PEO, and also served on the Nevada Library Board and Story County Board of Health. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, traveling, socializing, and hooking rugs.
Katherine is survived by a daughter, Dr. Laura Calderwood of Cedar Falls; a son, Bill (Chris) Croghan of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; 2 grandchildren, Anna and Connett Croghan; a sister, Marian Barger of Denison, Texas; and sister-in-law, Virginia Croghan of Savannah, GA.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband on August 11, 2006, and a sister Virginia Lee Ackermann.
