Howard T. King, 66, of Road 550 South, died at 2:50 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2011 at the Franklin United Methodist Community in Franklin. Mr. King was a 1963 graduate of Shawswick High School in Lawrence County and served with the Indiana National Guard from 1964-1970. He was a sub-station maintenance supervisor with Duke Energy retiring in 2002 after 38 years of service. After retirement, Mr. King worked at Columbus Engineering Inc and Oak Knoll Golf Course. His associations and activities include, past president of Board of Directors of Eastern Bartholomew Water Corporation, a 10 year 4-H leader, a member of Mill Race Center, a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Bedford, and involved with Hospice of South Central Indiana fund raising and basketball, volleyball and softball teams.


A casual celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with family and friends sharing special memories. The family invites anyone in attendance to share their memories of Mr. King during this celebration. Family and friends may call from Noon until service time Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimers Association of Indiana, Vista Care Hospice of Indianapolis or the donors choice of charities. Born in Lawrence County August 14, 1945, Mr. King was the son of Joseph and Mamie Pemberton King. He married Kathryn Kitty Ikerd January 28, 1966. Survivors include his wife Kitty; children, Michael (Karen Renz) King of Cincinnati and Teresa King (Rachel Mathena) of Franklin; grandchildren, Luke and Paige Renz King of Cincinnati, sisters, Norma Keller and Virginia Herod both of Bedford and Betty Jo (Delno) Steward of Bloomfield and a brother, Jesse (Susan) Gaddis of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Mr. King was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and two sisters.
