She is a native and lifelong resident of Pierce County. She was employed as a private sitter, and she worked at Pic'N Save for 13 years. She was also affiliated with the Baptist faith.
She is the daughter of the late Fred C. Bowen and Blanche Cowart Bowen. She is the wife of the late Alvin Mercer, Sr. and the late Clinton Odine Dubberly. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa Hiers; and a brother, Fred C. Bowen, Jr.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Cason of Blackshear, and Emma Floyd of Waycross; a son, Alvin Mercer, Jr. of Blackshear; 8 grandchildren, Ann Alexander, Dewayne Hiers, Mandy Lee, Edie Carter, Amber Carrin, Ray Mercer, Sabrina Mercer and Joey Mercer; 5 great grandchildren, Brian Alexander, Brandon Alexander, Kenny Obiera, Lena Carter and Azzie Lee; a sister, Anna Smith of Prattville, AL; two brothers, Marcus Bowen and David Bowen both of Prattville, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 6 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 21, 2006) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends 4 until 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
