Robert L. Ballard, 78, died Tuesday, January 4, 2000 in Springfield. Funeral services were held January 7, 2000 at Born-Wikoff Funeral Home, Atwood with burial in Mackville Cemetery. Family suggests memorials be given to Southside Christian Church, Springfield or St John's Hospital Hospice, Springfield.

Mr. Ballard was born July 3, 1921 in Cissna Park the s/o Frank C. and Beulah Stowe Ballard. He married Mildred Collins September 10, 1940. she preceded him in death in 1986. Surviving are his daughter, Mary Jane (Charles) McKinney; two granddaughters: Rhiannon and Glynis; and five sisters: Leona Schweighart, Pesotum; Betty (Alfred) Klaus, Arthur; Dorothy (James) Brooks, Rankin; Peggy (Leo) Cinovic, Rantoul; and Phyllis (Thomas) Elbs, Villa Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and four sisters.

He retired from the University of Illinois as a Storekeeper. He formerly owned and operated Ballard's Tavern in Atwood and Dogs & Suds in Atwood. He was a member of Southside Christian Church, Springfield and a 50-year member of American Legion Post 770. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II.
