Nobel Prize-winning author. His chief works are the impressive novel cycles "The Promised Land" (1891 to 1895), "Lucky Per" (1898 to 1904), and "The Realm of The Dead" (1912 to 1916). He also wrote a number of brilliant short stories some of which are found in the collections "Clipped Wings" (1881) and "Chronicles" (1890). In 1917 he shared the Nobel Prize for literature with the writer Karl Gjellerup.
