Bonnie Jean Hanna passed away Saturday, July 15, 2006, at her home in Lafayette, Colo. Bonnie was born on the "Old Plunkett Place" in Chase County, Nebraska, June 6, 1931, to Dewey and Thelma Hill. Her dad crop shared a farm owned by the Reslers. She attended District #30 Elementary School which was called Hilcrest. It was the largest rural elementary school in Chase County. She went on to attend Wauneta Rural High School. During this time she stayed in Wauneta with her grandmother, Lula Hill. It was during her junior year she met Charles Hanna. Bonnie and Charles were married on Nov. 22, 1947. He preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 2003. They had a daughter, Catherine, in 1950; daughter Vicky in 1955 and son Doug in 1965.

Bonnie excelled at many jobs during her life: waitress, Avon saleswoman, motel receptionist, insurance agent, and optometrist assistant. Together with Charles, she owned and operated a farm outside of Wauneta and a motel in Crawford, Neb.

Bonnie was a member of the United Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge, and Park Board of Directors and volunteered often in her community. She loved cooking, quilting, decorating, playing cards and gardening. She dearly loved her family, her home, her many lifelong friends and her church.

Bonnie faced many challenges in her life, yet she always had a very pleasant personality and chose to look at the bright side of life. She was very goal oriented and worked hard to achieve what she set out to do. She is known for going out of her way to make folks feel comfortable in her home.

She is survived by her children: Catherine and husband, Lynn Lowman, of Louisville, Colo., Vicky Hanna of Gering, Neb., and Doug Hanna and wife, Darcy (Mordhorst) of Longmont, Colo.

She is also survived by grandchildren: Shanna Jones of Denver, Colo., Travis Jones and wife, Devon, of Broomfield, Colo.; Joshua DeMarcinco, Omaha, Neb.; Jeremy Madden, Scottsbluff, Neb.; Lindsey Maulsby, Scottsbluff; Dan Maulsby, Omaha; Ashley and Brooke Hanna, Niwot, Colo.; great grandchildren: Dylan Maulsby, Abigail and Samantha Madden and Ellianna DeMarcinco; brother Tom Hill and wife, Ellie, of Lincoln, Neb.; sister June and husband, Duane Blankenship, of Pender, Neb.; sister Shirley Ball of McCook, Neb.; sister Delores Collins of Lincoln, Neb.; and Jack Hill and wife, Peggy, of Littleton, Colo.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 18, 2006, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Wauneta, with Pastor Judy Dye officiating.
