Henry was born in Weisenheim am Sand,Germany. He was the son of Jacob & Katharina (Raab) Baier. He immigrated to the United States in 1887 and settled in Fairfield, IA. There he married Charlotte Kirchner in 1890. Five children were born to this union. Around 1911 he bought a farm 4 miles west of Algona. Later the family moved into Algona proper. Henry and Charlotte spent the remainder of their lives in the Algona vicinity.
