Samuel L. Howells, 90, of New Kensington, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, in Alle-Kiski Medical Center, Harrison Township. He was born Sept. 21, 1917, in New Kensington to the late Levi and Ethel Porter Howells and lived in New Kensington all his life. Mr. Howells was employed by Republic Steel, Russellton, and a member of Braeburn Methodist Church, Lower Burrell; served as a lieutenant in the Army Air Forces in World War II, and loved to fish, golf and bowl. Also predeceased by sister Margaret Dutkevich and brother Winton Howells. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Evelyn Simpson Howells; son, John Lamont, of Warren, Ohio; brother, Donald L. (Joann) Howells, of Tennessee; sister, Marilyn (Bob) Skalko, of Wisconsin; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Visitation from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 until a 10 a.m. service Monday in the FRANK F. GIGLER FUNERAL HOME, 2877 Leechburg Road, Lower Burrell. The Revs. Thomas Dougal and Gerald Schmitt will officiate. Burial in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
