Robert Clarence Shaw, 55, of Mundelein, Ill., formerly of Taylorsville, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 8, 2008. Born in Carroll County, he was the son of Ruth E. Condon Shaw of Taylorsville and the late Robert Lee Shaw. He was the former husband of Katherine Szela Shaw. He was raised in Carroll County and attended South Carroll High School. At South Carroll, he starred in football and track, and was elected captain of both teams during his senior year. He was selected as the scholar athlete for the school by the Greater Baltimore Chapter of the National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame. Though he received offers of full scholarships to play football in college, he chose to attend Harvard. At Harvard, he excelled as defensive tackle on the football team. He was selected to the All Ivy Team twice, to the Associated Press All East Team as a senior, and he received Honorable All-American recognition in his senior year. After graduating from Harvard, he obtained his Master of Business Administration from Columbia University. His career started with Container Corp of America in Atlanta, Ga., where he was quickly promoted to a position in Cupertino, Calif. While in California, he met and married his wife. From California, his career took the family to Connecticut and then Illinois, where he became president of Contempo Design. He eventually started his own company, Innovaces Inc., specialists in the design and manufacture of trade show exhibits. He was living in Mundelein, Illinois, at the time of his death. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are children Robert Jason Shaw and Madeleine Celeste Shaw; a twin brother, Ronald Shaw of Hereford; a brother, Randall Shaw of Taylorsville; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James United Methodist Church, 2900 Marston Road, New Windsor. Interment will be held in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, Sykesville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. James United Methodist Church, 2900 Marston Road, New Windsor, MD 21776; or to Hereford United Methodist Church, 10155 York Road, Monkton, MD 21111.
