Eugene was serving in the Marine Reserves when he volunteered to go into active duty.
He arrived in Vietnam 7 September 1967 and was assigned to HMM-163, MAG-36, 1st Marine Air Wing. Captain Gannon was returning from a
medical evacuation when the helicopter he was the pilot of was involved in a mid-collision with another helicopter. Both of the helicopters crashed on land. Captain Gannon died as a result of multiple injuries to the body.
He was married and served his country for 6 years.
Survived by his wife, Nancy Gannon and his son, Christopher Gannon of Long Island City, New York and his parents, Eugene R and Susan M of
New York, New York.
