Clara Juanita (Nita) Bennett, 88, of Sugarland, Texas and formerly of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away Monday, May 12, 2008 in a Richmond Hospital.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Fourth & Elm Church of Christ with Joe Bagby officiating. The entombment service will he held at 2pm Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Elmwood Memorial Park in Abilene under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Nita was born October 22, 1919 in Eastland, Texas and married Henry Lloyd Bennett on February 7, 1942 in Yuma, Arizona. She was a member of Fourth & Elm Church of Christ. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Rea and husband, Randy of Midland, Texas and Ann Edwards and husband, David of Sugarland, Texas; six grandchildren, Taylor Rea, Ainsley Rea; Britton Rea, Angela Edwards Smittle and husband, Carl, Amy Edwards Foster and Andrea Edwards; two great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Smittle and Emma Foster; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nita was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lloyd Bennett on June 30, 2000; three sisters, Velma Jones, Norma Orr and Myrtle Shahan; and four brothers, William Shahan, Ben Shahan, George Shahan and Hilton Shahan.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Riggs, Wendell Whittenburg, Arthur Bixler, Billy Whisenant, Joe Paty and Leon Donham.
Honorary pallbearers will be W.B. Whisenant and Thearl Nelson.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 from 7:00-9:00 pm.
