EAST HAMPSTEAD - Donald Hale Baumgartner, 90, formerly of Haverhill, Mass., died Sunday at Haven Health Care in Derry.

He was born in Haverhill on Nov. 12, 1915, son of the late Robert and Genevieve (Hale) Baumgartner.

He graduated from Haverhill High School, Class of 1933. Donald was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as Tech-4, in the 1st Infantry Division in the Great Britain, North African, and Tunisian campaigns.

He was a self-employed electrical contractor and an electronics technician Harvard, University of Michigan (where he worked with Dr. Wernher Von Braun on technical development of the U.S. Army's ballistic missile program) and MIT. He was an expert rifleman at the Haverhill Progressive Gun Club.

After retiring, Donald enjoyed operating the merry-go-round at Canobie Lake Park.
He was the husband of the late Alice (Brookings) Baumgartner and is survived by his sister, Janet White-Nay of Greenland; many nieces and nephews, and longtime friend and companion Constance Marshall of Salem.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home in Haverhill. A memorial service was held at the East Hampstead Union Church followed by a gathering of family and friends.
