He was a graduate from Spanish Fork High School, where he played the saxophone in its marching band. He also played in the local dance orchestra. He attended Brigham Young University and received a D.D.S. from the University of Southern California. He had a dental practice in Los Angeles for 43 years, before retiring in 1980. Blair purchased the K.C. Cattle Ranch in Clover Valley in 1952. He worked the ranch until 1993 when he moved to Orem, UT.
