Times Independent, 1954-08-19, Grand County Pioneer Lady Laid to Rest
The many friends of Mrs. Ella Stewart were saddened recently by the news of her death on Aug 8. She recently celebrated her birthday with a lovely party to which many of her friends were invited, the occasion being her very first birthday party on July 20. This was a very pleasant occasion with the party held in the beautiful patio of her daughter Mrs. Abe Day.
Ella Howard was born at Randolph, Utah in July, 1879 to the union of William Howard and Elizabeth Hill She spent her childhood and young womanhood in the Randolph and HuntIngton communities, graduating from the Emery County High School. Married to Charles Stewart she has been a resident of Moab for 58 years with the family prominent among the farming and ranching families of the community and active in development of the frontier community into a town always joining in all movements to the best interest of all. A wonderful frontier wife and mother, she was proceeded in death by her husband.
Mrs. Stewart is survived by two sons, Clive and Wesley Stewart, Mrs. Abe Day and Mrs. Lynn Hawks, daughter, all of Moab and another daughter Mrs. Ora Malin of Salt Lake City. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 24 great -grandchildren as we'll well as two sister, Mrs. Zina Fish of Huntington, Utah and Mrs. Louise Howard of Schnectedy, New York.
Mrs Stewart was a member of the L.D.S. church and the L.D.S. Relief Society, in both of which she was a tireless worker. Funeral services were held from the L.D.S. church with interment in the Grand County Cemetery at Moab. The floral tribute attested to the high tribute in which the family is held. The Turner mortuary was in charge of all arrangements.
