Clayton H. Wells, 86, of Wenatchee, passed away after a long illness, Friday, August 17, 2007, at Central Washington Hospital. He was born June 13, 1921, in Rice Lake, WI to Orlin and Lucy Wells.

While serving in the US Navy in the South Pacific, he was injured and hospitalized after the USS Kanawha was sunk.

He met and married, Marie Abdelkader, July 1, 1945, in Noumea, New Caledonia. He received the Purple Heart Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Area Campaign Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the WWII Victory Medal. Mr. Wells was a long time Wenatchee resident. He was the owner of a construction company and owned, Castle Janitorial Service in Wenatchee for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and bowling. He was a member of the Lion's Club and the Eagles Lodge in Wenatchee. Survivors include his wife, Marie Wells of Wenatchee; a daughter, Rosemarie Hanson of Manson; son, Richard Clayton Wells (Helen) of Wabash, IN; grandchildren, Andrea Shae (Mark) of Dutch Harbor, AK, Erik Hanson of Dutch Harbor, AK, Aaron Hanson of Anchorage, AK, Marc Wells (Monica) of Wabash, IN, Jeffrey Wells (Jennifer) of Wabash, IN, Aime Wells (Richard Kennedy) of Melbourne, FL, Heather Rathbun (Ed) of Wabash, IN and Carri Dials of New Orleans, LA; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gordon and Chuck Wells; and a sister, Jeanette Wile. Graveside Military Service will be held at the Wenatchee City Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2007. Betts Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
