Artist, Model. Born in France, she first became known as a surrealist photographer. In 1936 she met Pablo Picasso and was his lover and muse for eight years. She modeled for many several of his best known paintings of the period, often characterized as "The Weeping Woman." She created her own art throughout her lifetime, often while battling with depression. She died in Paris at the age of 89.
