A retired employe of Alton Box Board, Mr. Acord had been employed there as a beater operator for 24 years prior to 1952. He was born in White County, May 10, 1879, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Acord.
He had lived at the Viewland Avenue home since 1925.
During his early life he taught music and was a well known vocalist.

Mr. Acord was a member of First General Baptist Church, East Alton.
His wife, the former Minnie Bell Wilson, whom be married Feb.1, 1901, preceded him in death in 1964.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Retha Wesley, Cottage Hills; three sons, Ebert, Alton; Hallard, East Alton, and H. Oswald, Wood River; a brother, Ira, Danville, and a sister, Mrs. Emma Berg; Glendale, Calif., 10 grandchildren and seven great - grandchildren. Four brothers and six sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral services Wednesday at 1 p.m., in First General Baptist Church will be conducted by the Rev. Etshel Hillhouse and the Rev. Junior Wiseman.
Burial will be in Upper Alton Cemetery.
