Ecuador President. He served five times as President of Ecuador, from September 1, 1934 to May 20, 1935; from May 28, 1944 to March 30, 1946; from September 1, 1952 to August 31, 1956; from September 1, 1960 to November 7, 1961, and from September 1, 1968 to 22 June 1972. After being ousted several times, was exiled in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He was the most important figure in Ecuadorian politics for over half a century. In 1977 was offered him for its sixth presidential nomination, but didn't accept because of his advanced age.
