Robert Kevin Eberenz, 15, 150B Bayshore Drive, Barnegat, died in his home on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at approximately 12:20 AM. He was trapped downstairs beside the front door after his family escaped upstairs through a window into Alberto DeStefano's arms from an accidental fire caused by an electrical malfunction. Robert was born in Point Pleasant and grew up in Barnegat. He was a freshman at Southern Regional High School in Stafford Township and was close on making it to the honor roll of the first semester. Robert was planning on spending $100 of his birthday allowance that he received from his father to purchase Christmas presents for his family. He was a member of the Alliance Soccer Club, the youth basketball and baseball leagues, the Southern Regional High School freshman football team, and Saint Mary's Roman Catholic Church, all in Barnegat. Robert was known as a bright, intelligent, logical, mature and organized boy who loved his family, reading, the New York Jets, waterskiing and riding personal watercraft with his family and friends. He also loved history, watching the History Channel and realistic historical films, such as When We Were Men and Black Hawk Down. Robert will be missed by many family and friends. Loving grandson of Robert Norman Sr. and Elizabeth (nee Barber) Eberenz of Waretown and Jacqueline Tannenbaum of Woodbridge. Visitation was offered on Friday, November 28, 2003 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Thomas Lawrence Shinn Funeral Home, 10 Hilliard Drive, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. A funeral mass was officiated on Saturday, November 29, 2003 at 10 AM in Saint Mary's Church, 747 West Bay Avenue, Barnegat, NJ 08005. Interment followed at Saint Mary's Cemetery, 283 Beachview Avenue, Manahawkin, NJ 08050.
