Edward J. Coyne Sr., 81, a resident of Carpenter Hill Rd, died peacefully Wednesday May 6, 2020 at his home in Pownal, VT.


He was born in Bennington, VT May 23, 1938, son of the late William and Eleanor (Mathers) Coyne. He received is education in Bennington and then enlisted in the National Guard. He then joined the rural fire department before becoming a Bennington Police Officer. He also spent time working for the local Sherriff Department and bulldozing for Burgess Brothers.


He was a gentle soul who loved his children and his pets. He loved fishing, watching birds and NASCAR.


He leaves his loving wife June and three siblings; Ralph of Pownal, Thomas of Shaftsbury and sister Kathy Brown of Randlett, OK. He also leaves 11 children; Cheri Noble of Spring Hill, FL, Lynn Potter (Theodore) of Florida, Donna Russell of Anniston, AL, Edward Jr. (Cindy) of Pownal, Carlton (Tammy) of Bennington, Tim Hall (Michelle) of Derry, NH, Sean Smilie (Diane) of Warrensburg, NY, Brooke Nelson (Mark) of Felton, PA, Kelly Smilie of Londonderry, NH, Robin Smilie of Westhampton, MA, and Erik Jones of West Springfield MA. He also leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


He is predeceased by 7 siblings; Helena, Mary, Milton, John, Gertrude, Stephen and Greg.
