Benham Crook was his father-in-law, NOT his parents or grandparents. His mother's maiden name was Mary Beetson. Also, in the possession of Rev. R. M. Steele is a letter in handwriting of John Copcutt of Yonkers Mansion as a young man, wherein he calls his father "John Beatson Copcutt."
His daughter Ann confirms his birthplace month and year, in Zion's Advocate page 216, 2nd column, 1st paragraph: "Our next visit was in Waddeston, eight miles distant, the village in which my father first saw the light in February 1777."
He moved his family to America from England in 1817, establishing and continuing his very successful Cabinet Making business. He retired well-to-do at age 60 and moved to Tarrytown where he and Washington Irving (famous for Legend of Sleepy Hollow) were neighbors and good friends. They are both buried near each other in this the very Sleepy Hollow Cemetery of Tarrytown, town of Greenburgh.
