Freddie was the youngest child of Roy Layton and Maryann Hewett Strickland of Homerville, Georgia. He was a truckdriver/ mechanic by trade. He was an avid fisherman who loved to tell stories and jokes. He also enjoyed playing practical jokes on his friends and family. Freddie was a patience and loving husband, father and grandfather. He suffered from Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis, which caused his death.
He married Nadine Barnes on June 19, 1964. They had four children: Robbin, Raymond (Freddie Jr), David and Cindy. They have ten grandchildren: Rebecca Mullis, JodiRuth Mullis, Layton Morgan, Scott Strickland, Bryan Strickland, Dalton Tomlinson, Stephanie Strickland, Lindsey Strickland, Braden (Gus Mullis) Allen, and MariAnna Allen and (1)great-grandchild: JerriBeth Mullis.
