Irene V. Dobie, 81, of Beaumont, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital.She was born on Aug. 23, 1928, in Eckert to Jessie Margaret Garrett and Harry Edgar Lorenz. Irene retired from nursing on Dec. 25, 1992 with Brackenridge Hospital in Austin and moved to Beaumont in 1993 to be close to her family upon her retirement. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.Irene was an avid sports fan but mostly enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys and University of Texas Longhorns. She had many hobbies including gardening, shopping, eating out and spending time with her family and friends.Survivors include her son William "Bill" Dobie and his wife Glenda of Buna; sister Gwen Langehennig and her husband Arthur of Fredericksburg; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her husband, William J. Dobie; daughter, Sharon Wallace; sister Doris; and brothers, Cecil, Clayton and Joe.Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 16 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 777 North 4th Street, Beaumont. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at Wimberley Cemetery in Wimberley under the direction of Broussard's, 1605 North Major Drive, Beaumont. A gathering of her family and friends will be from 5 until 8 p.m. today at Broussard's and beginning at 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon prior to the service at the church.Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association, 5926 Balcones, Austin, Texas 78731.
