Another Early Settler Answered Taps

Oliver J. Davison, pioneer settler died at his home in Tecumseh, Wednesday evening, december 21, 1932, at 7 o'clock, following an illness about six months. He had been in failing health for several years, but had grown steadily worse of late, however, but was not bedfast but a few hours. The cause of his death was dropsy and heart failure.
Oliver J. Davisonwa s the son of Oliver J. and Jane (Anderson) Davison, early settlers of New Jersey, and was born at Trenton, N.J., April 3, in about 1850, that making the old gentleman about eighty-three years of age. At the age of four his parents moved to Lincoln, Ills., where he obtained his schooling and married Miss Caroline Shasteen, March 19, 1871.
Sixty-five years ago the couple located at Nebraska City where Mr. Davison carried mail from that city to Marysville, Kans., as a pony express before the days of the railroad. This he did for four years then they moved to Tecumseh, where he took up farming. Twelve children were born to this union, two of whom are deceased, Charles and Annie. The living in the order of their ages are, William E. Davison, Lincoln; Ida M. Goosman, Tecumseh; Ollie Davison, Pawnee City; Henry O. Davison of Portland, Ore.; twins, Ed Davison of Tecumseh; Mrs. Carrie Tripp of Hebron, twins, Ethel Robinson of Tecumseh and Mrs. O. F. Spencer of St. Joseph, Mo., twins, Chancie Davison of Auburn and Mrs. Charles Harley of Mahaney City, Penn. There are two living sisters, Mrs. Virginia Griffin of Middletown, Ills., and Mrs Jane Sherfton of California and one brother, Charles R. Davison of Middletown, Ills.
All of the children are here except for the son in Portland.
The deceased had for years been a member of the Methodist church, a man of many pioneer and recent friends, due to a very loving nature. he was always kind to his family and will be sadly missed by his wife and children. The funeral arrangements have not yet been made when this paper went to press.
