Local Youth Killed in West
Fall From Train in West
Edgar Joseph Rivers, 16, Was Returning Home from Conservation Camp in Idaho - Left Here Last July.
Edgar Joseph Rivers. 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Rivers, Jr.,of 328 Judson street, was fatally injured yesterday in falling from a train at Linton, Colo. He died in a hospital at Goodland,Kan. Mayor R. J. Morissette sent notice to his parents.

Rivers was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and was returning East from Idaho with others whose terms of enlistment had expired. He left here in July. It is expected that the body will arrive in Ogdensburg the latter part of this week. The funeral will be held at Notre Dame church.

The youth was born in Ogdensburg Feb. 7, 1917. He attended the Ogdensburg Free Academy last year and intended resuming his studies on his return home. Surviving are his parents, a brother Ralph, and nine sisters. Mrs. Mamie Roberts, Mrs. George Ladouceur, Mrs. Dorothy Kelly,Misses Marguerite. Evelyn, Florence, Martha, Marion and Vivian Rivers, all of Ogdensburg.

Announcement of the youth's death was received by the police at 3 a. m. yesterday. The message came from Syracuse and requested that the boy's mother be notified and asked to communicate at once with Syracuse. The message was immediately delivered at the Rivers home.

The following message was received by Mrs. Rivers: Chicago, Ill., Oct. 8. Mrs. Mary Rivers. 228 Judson Street. Ogdensburg. N. Y.: Edgar Rivers seriously injured about head today when he fell from train. Taken to hospital at Goodland. Kansas. Care Dr.Beckner.C. E. Midcota. CRI. & PR. Co.

Mayor Morissette received the following telegrams: Goodland. Kansas. 9 a. m. Oct. 9.Mayor R. J. Morissette, Ogdensburg, N. Y.Edgar Rivers died 4:10 a. m. today.Dr. Beckner Governor's Island, N. Y. Oct.

Mayor of Ogdensburg,Ogdensburg. N. Y.: Report received that Edgar R. Rivers. 328 Judson Street.Ogdensburg.N.Y. died in Booth Roy hospital. Goodland. Kansas, and reported as the result of railroad accident. Name of nearest relative not shown in man's record. Request if possible you wire this headquarters name and address of nearest relative.
