Born May 20, 1948, in East Liverpool, a son of the late Mary "Jo" and Charles Louis Stowers, he was a lifetime area resident.
An employee of the former Crucible Steel Co., he also previously worked at the Lordstown General Motors Plant.
He was a member of the One Day at a Time Club and an avid basketball player who also coached little league basketball with Harold Kelly at Oakland Free Methodist Church.
He is survived by a son, John E. Stowers Jr., of East Liverpool.
Also surviving are two other sons, Thomas Howard Riley and Charles Quarterman, and a daughter, Brandy (Anthony) Ghrist, all of East Liverpool.
There are four grandchildren, Brittany Star Jones, Jonathan Ghrist, Stacy Quarterman and Charles Quarterman, Jr.
A sister, Betty Virden and her husband, Richard, of South Carolina, also survive.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews: Bob Lawrence, Don Lawrence, Cheryl Lawrence and Jerry Lawrence.
Surviving cousins include the Mike and Greg Post families and the Ronald Keener family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Lawrence.
