Franz Heinrick "Henry" Baumhoefer was the son of Franz and Margarite Agnese (Paul-Hollmann) Baumhoefer. He was probably born in Versmold Westphalia on the family homestead Hesselteich 17. In 1866 he immigrated to Missouri along with his brothers Fritz and William presumably to avoid conscription into the Prussian army. They were followed in 1867 by their mother and 2 sisters Johanna Catherine and Francisca Charlotte. For several years he was employed at the Bleckmann and Horn Milling Co. in Washington. He married Cath Wilhelmina Jostes on Nov 15, 1866 and they had 5 children, 3 of whom survived to adulthood, Josephine, Fritz, and Henry.

Henry, the father, bought 2 adjoining farms in Boone County for his two sons Fritz and Henry. There was considerable friction between these 2 brothers that resulted in Henry shooting and killing Fritz in 1911.

The writer, Doug Wilke, is aware that the death certificates for Johanna's brothers Henry and William list a maiden name for their mother as a Horstmann. This is actually the name of the wife of brother Fritz (name from first marriage). I cannot explain the discrepancy other than confusion or dementia?? I have too much evidence for the Paul-Hollmann name. See letter in Photos. Also note some minor errors in William Wilke's bio which I have corrected based on ancestry research.
