Pearl (Butch) McConnell passed away on May 2, 2008 at home with her family at her side.

She was known as "Beauteous Butch," wife of the "top jet ace of the world" in the Korean Conflict, Captain Joseph C. McConnell II, who preceded her in death Aug. 25, 1955. He was testing the F86H at Edwards Air Force Base when he was killed.

You'll remember the movie about their life story by Warner Brothers "The McConnell Story" in 1955. He was a national hero, she was his wife "butcher to his heart," thus he nicknamed her Butch.

Butch was asked by her loving husband Captain McConnell not to remarry and she never did. Now she can rest in peace with him. She was a widow for 54 years. It was the greatest love story of the century.

She was very active in Veteran Affairs, sending many letters to President Ronald Reagan, and was a charter member of his 1984 Republican Presidential Task Force. Her favorites were President Ronald Reagan and President John F. Kennedy. She will be missed by all.

Pearl is survived by daughters: Patricia (Trish) McConnell, Kathleen F. Holliday and son-in-law Steve Holliday, grandchildren, Michael P. Palmer Sr., William (Billy) Cordell Jr., Yvette Thillens and Dan Thillens, Debra Maloney and Brian Maloney, and great-grandchildren, Michael P. Palmer Jr., Chazz Angel Cordell, Justin, Joshua, and Jenna Thillens, and Ian, and Conner Maloney.

Pearl will be laid to rest at the foot of her husband's memorial at Victor Valley Cemetery in Victorville on Thursday, May 8, 2008. Chapel viewing will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Services will follow at 3 p.m.

May she rest in peace. God bless her.
